The maximum size that WhatsApp would allow me without this option would only be 1500 x 1000 pixels .
When we select HD quality, a floating message "HD quality is set for [N] photos" will appear. Being N, this is the total number of photos we want to send. Thus allowing mass distribution of images in HD quality.
Although sending files as attachments is still the best option to send the original file in the highest quality, the HD option is a great alternative. Simple and effective.
