Ethical photographer: a more aligned positioning

Post by simarahman5835 »

This term suits you perfectly! And tell me, how did you take this turn in your career?

This change in positioning came from two things.

First, I was uncomfortable in my job as a photographer. Some of the events I covered didn't fit me. Sometimes there was a lot of waste and waste. It bothered me, I didn't feel like I belonged.

Secondly, the fires in Australia. That was a very powerful belgium whatsapp trigger. I no longer saw the point in earning my living doing things that didn’t suit me. I realised that it was time to change the world, that we were the last generation that could do it. And that we had to go for it!

Ultimately, this new positioning is almost not a choice. The desire was much too strong. I needed this. I didn't want to take pictures for the sole purpose of taking pictures. What is my role as a photographer? Who do I want to serve?

I'm not judging, but I wanted a new horizon. I want to feel useful.

And I know you are! And how does a session with an ethical photographer actually work? What is your work process?

As I was telling you, before I was in an executor role. I had a little brief on the photos wanted and I did what was expected of me.

Today, I pay a lot of attention to preparing the session. I want to know the person or company well beforehand. My goal is to take photos that correctly represent my client's personality and values. I think about the message my photos should deliver. Of course, aesthetics are important but it is not the main goal of my work. I am there to get a message across, to put into images what my client thinks or feels.

So we work a lot before the session. We discuss and build together what will happen during the shooting to have consistency in the visual.

Contact with others is very important to me. By being close to my client, I know that we will have a fairer result because the person will be confident and relaxed.
