GCM (Google Consent Mode) is nothing more than another version of the "Google" tool for managing consent to the processing of cookies. It is adapted to the new legislation and the entire mechanism should have been implemented in 2024 (the dates and their changes are so different that we have allowed ourselves to simplify) on all websites that use cookies for advertising and their own purposes (for example, tracking the behavior of their users). Without it, Google may block certain functions of advertising panels - such as personalizing ads, remarketing or conversion measurement.
How does it work? – we explain from the basics
Tracking on websites is currently done through country code +39, italy phone numbers files invisible to the user called cookies. Such files are saved by the website in the user's browser memory and thanks to them it is able to collect information about their online activity. Information obtained in this way is used for various purposes - from tracking conversions through personalizing content, analyzing traffic on the website to conducting marketing campaigns (in this case they will most often be referred to as third parties).
Cookies can also be used to ensure the proper functioning of the service (then they are the so-called first party). Thanks to them, the website is able to remember what products we have added to the basket (even if we close the browser tab), "remember" our login or, for example, display recently viewed products.

According to the legislation (both at the EU and national level) – the user of our website should have the possibility to express or refuse consent to those files that are not necessary for the operation of the service . In practice, it should look like this: after entering the website, we inform about the use of cookies (taking into account the presentation of specific examples, their operation and data storage time) and give the possibility of expressing consent to all or some of the files and give the possibility of refusing to be tracked. A well-configured mechanism should launch cookies only when the user expresses consent. In other situations, we should not collect data about the session.
This is the origin of all the notifications and banners that we so bravely close when entering a website.
– minor interjection by the author.
Why is cookie consent important?
Cookie consent is key. It ensures that users are aware of the collection and use of their personal data. The requirement for consent is regulated by various laws – such as the GDPR in the European Union, which requires informing users about the purposes of data collection and obtaining their explicit consent.
