Check out 8 cohesion tips for writing the ENEM and ensure a clear and well-structured text, increasing your chances of getting a good grade.
The word “text” comes from the Latin textum , which means weave, fabric or mesh. This gives you a good idea of what a text is: something constructed like a fabric, in which each part connects to the other to form a whole.
In other words, a text is a unit with complete meaning, which can be represented by a paragraph, a poem, a proverb or even a short pakistan mobile database with a specific meaning.
But be careful: just as a recipe is not just a list of ingredients, a text is not just a bunch of sentences thrown together. To work well, it needs coherence (the ideas need to make sense together) and cohesion (the parts of the text need to be well connected, using linking words like “therefore”, “therefore” or “in addition”).
These characteristics help organize ideas and make the text clear and easy to understand. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to the construction of your text, especially in essays for ENEM or college entrance exams.

What is cohesion?
Cohesion refers to the way in which the different parts of a text connect with each other, forming a logical and fluid whole. Thus, it is responsible for ensuring that sentences and paragraphs are clearly articulated , using linguistic elements that create these connections.
When you write a text, it is important that the ideas are well connected so that the reader clearly understands what you want to say.
So, this happens through cohesion , which is how the different pieces of a text come together. To do this, we use words called connective elements , such as conjunctions (e.g., “because,” “but”), prepositions (“for,” “with”), adverbs (“in addition,” “then”), and pronouns.
These connectives play an essential role: they show how the parts of the text are related, giving a logical flow to the ideas. According to linguist Maria Helena de Moura Neves (2011), these words act at strategic points in the text, helping to connect one idea to another in a clear and organized way.
